Almost 17,000 solar panels are providing green power to two WSSC Water's Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs). The two 2-megawatt (MW) ground-mounted installations, each with nearly 8,500 solar panels spanning several acres, were commissioned November 6, 2013 at the Western Branch WRRF in Upper Marlboro, Md., and the Seneca WRRF in Germantown, Md. Both facilities are the result of a public-private partnership with Washington Gas Energy Systems and Standard Solar, Inc. Check out the photo gallery.
In 2019, WSSC Water plans to award a contract for an additional 6 MW of solar power.
