WSSC Water is committed to protecting the environment for generations to come. We are a Green Power Partner of the US EPA.
WSSC Water uses electricity generated by the Sandy Ridge wind farm in Tyrone, Pennsylvania equally approximately 70,000 megawatt (MW) hours of power per year. 42 turbines generate this electricity, each producing 2.0 MW. This use of wind power contributed to the reduction of greenhouse gases released into the Washington area by 31,400 tons per year. It is the equivalent of taking 7,324 gas-powered cars off the Capital Beltway.
The 10-year contract initiated in 2020 includes Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) and environmental attributes.
