Only the 3 P's! |  No Tire Toallitas Húmedas Por el Inodoro

Your toilet is not a garbage can. Use the trash can for trash; use the toilet for only the three Ps. What are they? Pee, poop and paper!

Flushing other items down the toilet can lead to problems for WSSC Water and you! Non-flushable items, such as baby wipes or feminine hygiene products don’t break apart like toilet paper. These items can get stuck in your pipes or our pipes. If that happens, sewage will back up in your basement or overflow from one of our manholes, impacting the environment.

NOT flushable

  • Wipes (baby, feminine, personal)
  • Dental floss
  • Paper towels
  • Diapers
  • Condoms
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Q-tips

What is a “flushable” wipe?

Unfortunately, many wipes that are labeled “flushable” may go down the toilet, but they do not break apart in the system. The true test to determine if something is flushable: does it dissolve like toilet paper or organic waste? If the answer is no, then it is NOT flushable.

Literally tons of wipes, still intact, clog pumps at wastewater pumping stations across the nation. WSSC Water has spent $2 million to install grinders at a number of our wastewater pumping stations to deal with the growing problem of wipes in the pipes.

Remember... KEEP THE WIPES OUT OF THE PIPES!
