WSSC Water has received local and national attention for our success in expanding opportunities to a growing number of diverse businesses in our communities. We have shown a strong commitment to the economic development and advancement of diverse businesses by focusing on four key areas: Supplier Advocacy, Compliance, Supplier Development and Strategic Outreach.
We are committed to providing diverse and small, local businesses the opportunity to compete for business, whether directly with WSSC Water or by subcontracting through our primary suppliers. This mission is achieved through our Small Local Business Enterprises Program and Minority Business Enterprises Program. We encourage all WSSC Water-contracted suppliers to support these supplier diversity efforts.

In FY 2024, WSSC Water spent more than $173 million (34%) (Figure 1) with MBE firms and awarded $157 million (32%) (Figure 2) in contracts to MBE firms.
BOTA Consulting Engineers, Inc., an African American firm, provided critical engineering services for the Piscataway Bioenergy Project. The engagement resulted in 25% personnel growth, 20% sales increase and led to additional projects.
