FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WSSC Water crews quickly responded to and stopped a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) from a manhole at 4605 Annapolis Road in Hyattsville that was caused by excessive rainfall.
The SSO was confirmed at 4:00 p.m. yesterday and stopped at 10:00 p.m. later that same day. The total volume of the overflow is estimated at 27,000 gallons of untreated diluted wastewater that was contained in an on-property construction excavation.
Signs will be posted today. The area is being restored and lime and straw applied to site.
It is important to note that WSSC Water’s sewer and water systems are separate. The overflow is NOT affecting drinking water.
