Laurel, Md. – January 21, 2025 – WSSC Water is hosting two public hearings for interested customers and stakeholders to ask questions and provide feedback on its $1.8 billion preliminary proposed Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) operating and capital budget. Staff will provide an overview of the budget, answer questions and receive public comments.
The outcome-based budget will continue WSSC Water’s commitment to protecting public health, enhancing customer assistance programs, maintaining the utility’s AAA bond rating and investing in critical water and wastewater infrastructure. The $1.8 billion budget will also allow WSSC Water to maintain compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulatory mandates, including the Safe Drinking Water and Clean Water Acts. Additionally, the operating and capital budget will leverage external funding to supplement rate revenue, promote environmental justice by ensuring equitable access to services and programs and continue to invest in employees to promote career growth and workforce development.
Interested members of the public can visit wsscwater.com/fin for complete details on the budget process and register to comment (not required). If you cannot join in person, both meetings are available to watch via livestream.

Written comments may be submitted electronically to BudgetGroup@wsscwater.com or mailed to Budget Division Manager, WSSC Water, 14501 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, MD 20707, until February 14, 2025. The proposed budget must be submitted to the Prince George’s and Montgomery County Executives by March 1, 2025. The preliminary proposed budget is funded with a 9.8 percent average revenue enhancement, which includes fixed fees. A typical customer with a family of three using 48 gallons of water per person daily would see a quarterly increase of $26.41 in their bill. WSSC Water’s FY 2026 budget is effective on July 1, 2025.
Despite this increase, WSSC Water rates remain competitive and continue to compare favorably to many other comparable regional water and sewer utilities. WSSC Water’s cumulative bill increase since FY 2000 is well below those of its regional peers.
