Laurel, Md. – August 28, 2024 – WSSC Water is hosting two in-person public hearings next week to provide customers and interested stakeholders an opportunity to learn about and comment on the proposed six-year (Fiscal Years 2026-2031) Capital Improvements Program (CIP). Streaming options are available for those who cannot make the in-person meetings. 

The proposed $4.87 billion program focuses on upgrading and replacing WSSC Water’s aging critical infrastructure to enable the continued delivery of clean, safe and reliable drinking water and wastewater services to 1.9 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.     

Highlights in the proposed six-year CIP include:   

  • Interjurisdictional Agreements - $687.4 million 
  • Water Main Reconstruction Programs - $618.3 million  
  • Large Diameter Water Pipe and Large Valve Rehabilitation - $416.5 million 
  • Sewer Main Reconstruction Programs - $336.3 million  
  • Master Planning and Facilities Planning and Investments - $325 million 
  • Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances Management Strategy - $256.5 million 
  • Engineering Support Program - $225 million  
  • Trunk Sewer Reconstruction Program - $191.2 million 
  • Potomac Water Filtration Plant Upgrades - $183.7 million 
  • Lead Reduction Program - $103.6 million 
  • Anacostia #2 Wastewater Pump Station Upgrades - $72.3 million
