Laurel, Md. – August 20, 2024, 9:30 p.m. – WSSC Water appreciates the continued conservation efforts by customers in the Camp Springs area of Prince George’s County and encourages residents to continue to use water for essential purposes only.
The essential water use request is affecting approximately 1,366 customers in the Camp Springs area. Type your address in the interactive map to find out if you are located in the affected area.
Following the guidance below could avoid a Boil Water Advisory for the impacted area and help preserve water for fire protection as water slowly fills the Camp Springs water tank.
Until further notice, all customers are being urged to:
- Stop all outside water use – no watering lawns, no washing cars, no topping off swimming pools.
- Use water only as necessary – i.e., take shorter showers and quickly turn off faucets immediately after use.
- Limit flushing toilets (do not flush after every use).
- Limit using washing machines and dishwashers.
On Monday, August 19, ongoing water main construction work in the area caused an unexpected impact to the flow of water to the Camp Springs tank. To address this issue, crews worked throughout the night yesterday and completed water main work this morning to help enhance the flow of water to the tank.
WSSC Water urges customers in this area to use water for essential purposes only as the water level in the tank holds steady. WSSC Water is continuing to explore additional water distribution modifications to help expedite the filling of the tank.
Another update will be provided tomorrow (8/21) at 12 p.m., unless conditions change.
This essential water use only request remains in effect until further notice. If customers in this area are experiencing low pressure or no water, please call our Emergency Services Center at 301-206-4002.
