Laurel, Md. – August 21, 2024, 12:00 P.M. – WSSC Water appreciates the ongoing efforts of the Camp Springs community to limit water use as crews work around the clock to enhance the flow of water into the tank and encourages residents to continue to use water for essential purposes only.
The essential water use request is affecting approximately 1,366 customers in the Camp Springs area. Type your address in the interactive map to find out if you are located in the affected area.
Following the guidance below could avoid a Boil Water Advisory for the impacted area and help preserve water for fire protection as the water level continues to hold steady in the Camp Springs water tank.
Until further notice, all customers are being urged to:
Stop all outside water use – no watering lawns, no washing cars, no topping off swimming pools.
Use water only as necessary – i.e., take shorter showers and quickly turn off faucets immediately after use.
Limit flushing toilets (do not flush after every use).
Limit using washing machines and dishwashers to full loads only.
On Monday, August 19, ongoing planned water main construction work in the area caused an unexpected impact to the flow of water to the Camp Springs tank. To address this issue, crews worked throughout the night on Monday and completed water main work on Tuesday to help enhance the flow of water to the tank. This effort enabled the water level in the tank to stabilize. The level in the tank continues to hold steady, thanks in part to the community’s ongoing water conservation efforts.
Crews will start work this afternoon to connect an existing water main to the main that feeds the Camp Springs tank – providing another source of water for the tank. Work to make this connection is expected to take two days to complete. Once complete, WSSC Water will determine if the water level in the tank has increased to the point where the essential water use only request can be lifted.
WSSC Water is working on plans to make an additional connection to the water main that feeds the Camp Springs tank. This work is expected to start in mid-September and take approximately one month to complete.
Another update will be provided once crews have completed work outlined under “Next Steps” and WSSC Water determines the impact to the water level in the tank, unless conditions change.
