Laurel, Md. – April 10, 2024 – Following the release today of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) final rule on several types of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water, WSSC Water will make available a water quality expert at their state-of-the-art laboratory in Silver Spring today from 12:00-1:30 p.m. to explain the utility’s comprehensive test results for these forever chemicals, which are below the final rule.
WSSC Water Senior Scientist Priscilla To will:
- Reassure 1.9 million WSSC Water customers that they can trust their tap water
- Break down what you need to know about manmade PFAS compounds used since the 1940s
- Display common household products containing PFAS
- Provide tips on how to reduce PFAS exposure
- Explain how these manmade compounds end up in drinking water sources
- Detail costly water treatment changes that may be necessary to meet new regulations
- Discuss why the entities responsible for polluting the environment with PFAS should be held financially responsible
- Demonstrate the water quality testing process
