WSSC Water Commissioners to Hold Second Special Virtual Meeting to Review and Discuss Rate-Setting Design Considerations on Friday, December 15

Laurel, Md. – December 14, 2023 – WSSC Water Commissioners are convening their second in a series of special virtual meetings this Friday, December 15, to review and discuss rate-setting design considerations. The virtual meeting, which starts at Noon, is open to the public via livestream directly from WSSC Water’s website.   

The rate-setting design process is a multi-step process that will help to identify financial and policy considerations, revenue requirements and affordability considerations in considering possible adjustments to WSSC Water’s existing rate structure. 

A rate structure is how customers are charged for water/sewer. WSSC Water’s rate structure consists of the volumetric rate structure, which is a four-tier inclining block structure, and fixed fees (account maintenance and infrastructure investment fees). WSSC Water’s rate structure is not changing. The rate-setting design process will help determine if changes need to be made to the volumetric charges within each tier to better account for current consumption patterns and/or changes to fixed fees.
