Laurel, Md. – March 16, 2022 – As the nation celebrates Women’s History Month, WSSC Water today celebrated the arrival of Regina Y. Speed-Bost as the newest member of the Board of Commissioners, which meets the third Wednesday of every month. A resident of Prince George’s County for more than 40 years, Speed-Bost was appointed to serve as Commissioner by County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and unanimously approved by the Prince George’s County Council last week.

“I want to thank Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and members of the County Council for appointing me to this position,” said Speed-Bost. “COVID-19 has shone the light on the importance of protecting public health through the delivery of safe, clean drinking water and I am honored to serve alongside such esteemed colleagues as we help to fulfill this crucial role.”

Speed-Bost brings 30 years of experience in energy law with vast knowledge of utilities and companies that engage in regulated activities in the U.S. She has represented natural gas and local distribution companies and electric utilities on various matters related to energy administrative and regulatory law. She began her career at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and, in 2020, founded her firm, SB Law, PLLC, in Washington, D.C.

In addition to her law firm, Speed-Bost is a Professional Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University Law School, where she teaches energy law and regulation. She is a licensed, Christian minister and serves as an elder in her local church. She regularly shares the intersections of her faith and roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, legal professional and community worker with younger attorneys as they navigate their careers.

Speed-Bost becomes the third of three Commissioners representing Prince George’s County. Six Commissioners, three from each county, govern WSSC Water. They are appointed to four-year terms by their respective county executives and confirmed by their county councils. More information on Speed-Bost and the other WSSC Water Commissioners is on our Governance page.
