LAUREL, MD – November 10, 2016: WSSC’s first woman General Manager and CEO Carla A. Reid has been selected as one of 10 recipients of this year’s “Playtime is Over Global Smashers Award,” to be presented at the 3rd Annual Playtime is Over (PTIO) Women in Business Conference on Saturday, November 12, in Arlington, Va.
The award recognizes women who consistently demonstrate what it means to smash barriers, roadblocks and challenges as well as to persist in their journey to success while creating transformation in the lives of others through their work.
“I started in the engineering field 30 years ago,” said Reid. “There were many barriers I had to break through. But, because of the many mentors I have had who encouraged me to work hard and dream big, I was able to fulfill my dream to one day become the first woman GM/CEO of WSSC. I am very grateful for the encouragement and inspiration of so many who instilled in me that I could, even when it looked like I couldn’t. It is our responsibility to inspire and encourage the next generation.”
In addition to Reid’s recognition, WSSC Small, Local and Minority Business Enterprise (SLMBE) Office Director Towanda Livingston is a speaker on the conference panel.
PTIO is a two-day conference designed to empower, inspire, educate and equip women to play all out in life and business, take bigger risks, step outside of their comfort zone and explore their fullest potential.
