NOTICE TO ALL:
Open Enrollment for 2009 Plan Year for active employees and retirees is underway and will end November 7th, 2008. All changes will be effective January 1, 2009. Please read your materials carefully as this information is very important. We encourage you to attend one of our Information Sessions, the dates and locations of which are found in your Open Enrollment booklet. We are expecting a high volume of phone calls and emails related to Open Enrollment 2009. As such, if you need assistance please email us at openenrollment@wsscwater.com. Please give us a detailed message including your name, ID number, phone number and nature of your request so that we can assist you.
Benefits to working for WSSC

Annual Leave -

Permanent employees receive annual leave based upon their length of continuous service. Permanent part-time employees are eligible to receive annual leave credit on a basis proportionate to permanent full-time employees.

Sick Leave -

Permanent full-time employees are eligible to receive 4.6 hours of sick leave every two week pay period, for a total of 120 hours (15 days) per year.

Holidays -

Permanent employees receive the following paid holidays:

New Year's Day Labor Day
Martin Luther King's Birthday Columbus Day
Presidents' Day Veteran's Day
Memorial Day Thanksgiving Day
Independence Day Day after Thanksgiving
Christmas Day

Employees also receive a holiday on General Election Day (1st Tuesday after 1st Monday in November in even-numbered years) and Presidential Inauguration Day (January 20th every fourth year).

Parental Leave -
Pregnant employees, or a male employee whose spouse is pregnant, may use accrued leave and/or leave without pay following the birth or adoption of a child.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) -
FMLA allows a total of 12 weeks of paid leave or leave without pay following the birth and/or adoption of a child, the serious illness of an employee, or an immediate family member who requires assistance from the employee during an illness.

Military Leave -
A maximum of 120 hours of paid leave per calendar year is provided to full-time employees for military obligations including summer training, draft board physical, or emergency call up.

Life Insurance -
A group term life insurance policy is provided as a benefit to all permanent employees. The insurance benefit amount is equal to two times the employee's annual salary.

Supplemental Life Insurance -
Employees may purchase a term insurance policy to supplement the insurance already purchased for you by the Commission.

Dependent Life Insurance -
Employees may purchase life insurance for their spouse and dependent children.

Health and Dental Insurance -
Employees may enroll in one of the available health and dental insurance plans. WSSC pays the majority of the monthly premium for individual and family level coverage.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) -
The FSA program is a voluntary benefit program which allows employees to pay for dependent care and non-reimbursed medical expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Workers' Compensation -
Provides pay and rehabilitation benefits in connection with a work related injury.

Disability Insurance -
This program will replace 60% of basic weekly earnings, up to a maximum weekly benefit of $1,600.00, for employees who are off from work due to a long term illness or injury.

Sick Leave Bank -
A voluntary program that provides sick leave to members of the Bank in cases of catastrophic illness or injury.

Retirement Benefits -
Provides a monthly pension to employees following their retirement from the Commission. Employees must make a mandatory 3% contribution of their gross pay to the retirement plan effective with their first day of employment and are vested after five years of service.

457(b) Deferred Compensation -
This program provides employees with the opportunity to set aside a portion of their current earnings in a tax sheltered savings and investment plan for the purpose of supplementing their future retirement benefits.

Direct Deposit -
Employees can arrange to have their paychecks deposited directly into their bank accounts.

Credit Union -
The Credit Union offers savings and loan services to all employees.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) -
The EAP program provides free, confidential counseling and referral services to employees and their family.

Smoke Free Work Place -
The WSSC prohibits smoking in its buildings, facilities, and vehicles/equipment.
