LAUREL – September 14, 2009 The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) will host a Pre-Bid Conference and Workshop for the Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) Project. The conference is designed to help small, local and minority business enterprises identify contractual opportunities with WSSC.
The Small, Local and Minority Business Enterprise (SLMBE) Office of WSSC will host this informative networking event. Information about the projects at five WSSC Wastewater Treat Plants will be discussed in detail. Representatives from the Project Delivery Group along with the Acquisition Office will be on hand to answer any questions.
The purpose of ENR projects is to provide enhanced nutrient removal at the five plants. Maryland’s Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) Program takes the next step in wastewater treatment beyond the previous Biological Nutrient Removal Program (BNR). The Bay Restoration Fund and State Revolving Loan will fund the upgrades at the plants that include the Western Branch in Upper Marlboro MD., Piscataway in Accokeek MD., Parkway in Laurel MD., Seneca in Germantown, MD., and Damascus in Gaithersburg, MD.
The construction activities vary from site to site, but all five WSSC ENR projects include civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical process upgrades. The estimated construction costs for all five projects total $125M.
