LAUREL – Aug 18 2009: Join neighbors and friends to compete for prizes in the WSSC Family Fishing Derby at the Triadelphia Recreation Area. The derby will be held on August 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. The site will be open all day for fishermen and families to enjoy picnicking and the playground.
Contestants will compete in two categories, Heaviest Fish and Most Fish Caught. For each category there will be one adult and one child winner. Prizes donated by the Brookeville Market are to include fishing equipment and gift certificates to the market.
You will need to bring your own fishing equipment to this catch and release event. This will also be a day of environmental awareness and fun. Visitors are asked to help take care of the property and limit carbon footprints by using the provided recycling and trash receptacles. A place to recycle fishing lines will also be available.
The Triadelphia Recreation Area is located at 2600 Triadelphia Lake Road, Brookeville. Contestants may register at the Brookeville Market, 22301 Georgia Ave, Brookeville, Maryland or call Sandy August at 301-206-8240.
For those who are not interested in competing in the Derby, volunteers are needed to help out with various tasks.
