LAUREL, MARYLAND (July 29, 2009): The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is pleased to announce that Jerry N. Johnson has been officially hired as WSSC’s new General Manager. Johnson, the former general manager of the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority, was approved by a unanimous vote and will begin his duties September 8, 2009.
Johnson was chosen by WSSC’s Commissioners during a special Commission meeting today. Commissioners cited his professional experience and his demonstrated ability to lead WSSC through change. “Jerry Johnson is the consummate professional and manager,” said Commission Chair Gene W. Counihan of Montgomery County. “He will bring his expertise to guide the WSSC into the future. This will be a tremendous benefit to our valued customers and our dedicated employees. We are extremely pleased to have him on board.”
Prior to working at DCWASA, Johnson had a distinguished public service career in Virginia. He served as Director of Public Utilities and the Deputy City Manager for Operations in Richmond. He was also General Manager for the Richmond Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Director of Community Facilities.
