LAUREL (June 3, 2009): The Commissioners of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission are scheduled to vote tomorrow on final adoption of the proposed Fiscal 2010 Operating and Capital Budget that includes a 9 percent rate increase. The $961.7 million budget was approved earlier by Prince George’s and Montgomery County Councils.
If approved, the rate increase would take effect July 1. The proposed budget reflects escalating prices for power, chemicals and fuel, as well as the replacement of 31 miles of water mains and 51 miles of sewer mains and laterals. The rate increase will add approximately $4.47 per month or $13.41 per quarter to the average residential customer’s bill.
