Pinhole Leak Questionnaire

Thank you for contacting us about pinhole leaks in copper pipes. While no definitive cause has been determined, the WSSC is working with the Copper Development Association and the Washington Suburban Master Plumbers Association to try and isolate the factors that may be causing the leaks. We are confident our water is not causing the pinhole leaks. Our water quality consistently exceeds strict federal standards for quality -- including corrosion potential -- which is monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency. We regularly monitor and test our water for corrosion potential. If our water were corrosive, it would be dissolving the entire pipe -- which is not happening -- not just creating a pinhole leak.
